Hello babs! I thought I would review the last chocolate bar palette that I have in my collection so far and we’re going to be talking about the first ever chocolate bar palette that I Heart Makeup released and it’s the I Heart Chocolate palette! I got mine from Superdrug aaaaages ago for £7.99 (I believe it’s the first one out of the collection I ever owned) but it is also available on TAM Beauty for the same price 🙂 Lets check it out shall we…
The eyeshadows come in a shiny brown plastic rectangular packaging that has a 3D melted chocolate effect on the front in the same colour. The palette flips open and has a secure click shut mechanism. It comes with a dual-ended sponge applicator and a good size and good quality mirror. There is also a plastic removable sheet inside which has all of the shade names on it.
I remember thinking back to when I first got it that I thought this palette looked incredible but looking at it now after I have seen so many other palettes this doesn’t really excite me anymore. I do love the chocolate bar palettes but the shades in this one didn’t scream out to me and the names for me aren’t the best. Even though I have had this palette for quite some time now it still does smell like chocolate which is great as the scent lasts and it’s not overpowering! What I did notice upon first impression is that there are a lot more shimmers in ratio to the mattes and you can tell straight away from looking at the palette is that this is a neutral palette as there aren’t really any pops of colour apart from the very light pale pink shade. The eyeshadow formula is nice to work with as they are creamy and easy to blend on the eyes.
Side note: I have dipped in twice to do my swatches like I always do to get a good opinion on the shadows pigmentation with build 🙂
Lets start with the top row…
(Without and with flash)
You Need Love – This is an off white/cream matte shade which could be good to use to set an eyelid primer. Pigmentation 3/5.
Piece Me Together – This is a deep brown matte shade which has a slight glitter reflects in it. There was quite a bit of kick-up in the pan with this shade. Pigmentation 3/5.
One More Piece – This is a pukey brown matte shade. Pigmentation 3/5.
Love Torn – This is a maroon shimmer. Pigmentation 3/5.
Stolen Chocolate – This is a dark brown matte shade which is quite patchy in pigmentation. Pigmentation 2/5.
Thank Friday – This is a light brown matte shade which could be good to use as a transition shade in the crease. Pigmentation 3/5.
More ! – This is a gold foil like shade. Pigmentation 4/5.
Pleasure Girl – This is a chocolate brown matte shade. Pigmentation 3/5.
Meet Chocolate – This is a light pale pink matte shade. Pigmentation 3/5.
Unforgivable – This is a bluey purple shimmer which is quite patchy in pigmentation. Pigmentation 2/5.
Love Divine – This is a brown shimmer. Pigmentation 4/5.
Smooth Criminal – This is a deep gold foil like shade. Pigmentation 5/5.
Chocolate Love – This is a light gold foil like shade. Pigmentation 5/5.
You need More – This is a reddy brown foil like shade. Pigmentation 4/5.
What A Way to Go – This is a deep berry shimmer. Pigmentation 3/5.
Endorphins Ready! – This is a silvery white shimmer. Pigmentation 3/5.
Although I do love the chocolate bar palettes this one is underwhelming. I can tell this is one of the first ones in the collection because of how the pigmentation is lacking overall in the palette compared to ones released after this. It does take quite a bit of building to get the pigmentation to where you want it to be in some of the shades but thats not necessarily always a bad thing to some people… I personally don’t mind it. If you’re someone who wants to collect all of the chocolate bar palettes then definitely pick this up but if not then you aren’t really missing out on anything if you decide not to. I do love the palette of course just like I do the rest in the collection but it’s definitely not the one I would recommend the most to buy out of the whole bunch because the shades are just bit “meh”. However, if you are someone who is starting out with makeup or eyeshadow then this would be a nice palette to start off with but if you are experienced then it won’t really be a huge deal to have it in your makeup collection.
