I Heart Makeup: Chocolate Love Palette🍫💗 | REVIEW

Hello babs! I’ll be doing another chocolate bar palette review today as my niece has been my little guinea pig for selecting what I review next (she picks a product from my makeup review box). We’re going to be looking at the Chocolate Love palette from I Heart Makeup which you can get on Superdrug and TAM Beauty for £7.99. I got my palette during a 3 for 2 offer at Superdrug. This palette screams out for someone who’s a lover of cool tones, I’m not personally but it does have some nice shades in it…

Side note: You get 14 eyeshadows with 1.22g/0.043oz of product in and 2 eyeshadows with 2.44g/0.085oz of product in.

Packaging

The eyeshadows come in a shiny deep pink plastic packaging that has a 3D melted chocolate effect on the front in the same colour. The palette flips open and has a click shut mechanism. Inside you get a big, good quality mirror and a dual ended-sponge applicator. The palette also comes with a plastic removable sheet inside which has all of the shade names on it.

Ingredients

MICA, TALC, MAGNESIUM STEARATE, PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM, ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, POLYBUTENE, DIMETHICONE, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, PARFUM, [+/-: CI 77891, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 15850, CI 16035, CI 77742]

First impressions

The first thing I like to check before actually using a palette is if the palette has a scent or not… like the other chocolate bar palettes in this collection it definitely does smell like chocolate but it is not overpowering at all! When I first opened the palette I could tell straight away that this is for someone who loves their cool tones and I like how there is a good ratio of mattes and shimmers in this palette. Although I probably wouldn’t use these 2 shades as transition colours I am sure that someone will be able to make them work… they are the shades Love and Ganache. There are 3 shades in this palette which look quite similar and they are the shades Treat, Candy and Flavour. You may not be able to make a lot of different looks with this palette but there are definitely a couple that you can do with the shade range available. The shades are definitely creamy in formula but I wouldn’t say they are the best pigmentation as some of the mattes are quite patchy and need some building up to them. The shimmers aren’t the best in formulation either and need to be built up as well so I would say if you are applying them to the lid then use a wet brush or your finger maybe.

The eyeshadows…

Side note: I have dipped in twice to do my swatches like I always do to get a good opinion on the shadows pigmentation with build 🙂

(Without and with flash)
Top row:

Love – This is a mauve matte shade which some people may be able to use as a transition shade in the crease. Pigmentation 3/5.
Treat – This is a cream matte shade which could be good to use to set an eyelid primer. This look very similar to the shade Candy Flavour. Pigmentation 3/5.
Chip – This is a chocolate-brown shimmer. Pigmentation 4/5.
Whipped – This is a white shimmer which could be good to use as an inner corner or under the brow bone highlight. Pigmentation 4/5.
Heart – This is a pink shimmer. Pigmentation 3/5.

Middle row:

Filling – This is an ashy grey matte shade. Pigmentation 2/5.
Sweet – This is a silvery lilac shimmer. Pigmentation 4/5.
Pink – This is a Barbie pink shimmer. Pigmentation 3/5.
Candy – This is a cream matte shade which could be good to use to set an eyelid primer. This looks very similar to the shades Treat and Flavour. Pigmentation 3/5.
Melts – This is a warm brown matte shade which is slightly patchy in pigmentation and needs a bit of build. Pigmentation 2/5 but after build 3/5.
Smooth – This is a gun-metal shimmer. Pigmentation 3/5.

Last row:

Premium – This is a copper foil like shade. Pigmentation 4/5.
Ganache – This is a pukey brown matte shade. Pigmentation 2/5.
Choc – This is a chocolate-brown matte shade which is slightly patchy in pigmentation and needs a little building. This may be able to be used as a transition shade in the crease. Pigmentation 3/5.
Perfect – This is a plum purple shimmer. Pigmentation 4/5.
Flavour – This is a cream matte shade which could be good to use to set an eyelid primer.  This is very similar to the shades Treat and Candy. Pigmentation 3/5.

Final thoughts…

This isn’t one of my favourite chocolate bars out of the collections because I’m simply someone who isn’t a fan of cool tone shades. There are definitely some unique shades in this palette though, those being the shades Sweet, Smooth and Perfect. The pigmentation overall isn’t the best out of the collection either but they can easily be worked with to get them to the desired look. I personally don’t think you can get many looks out of this palette but that may be because I haven’t really worked with cool tones before… if you’re into your cool tones then I’m sure you would be able to get this palette to work for you but if you’re not into your cool tones then I’d stay clear of this palette. It won’t be one that I reach for often but I’m glad I have it in my collection as there may be some shades that I do use from it.
